Dorothy Simpson Krause' Under Glass is a 12 x 12 x 3 inch wall-based assemblage incorporating a vintage 'Sunshine Biscuits' tin and a found image of the Madonna and child behind a lenticular lens at the center of the piece.  The tin works as a framing device and sets the palette of the piece in dark grays and antiqued black, highlighted with white, gold and red.  The lenticular functions to make the icon appear to float against the dark background.  Krause has intentionally given this sculptural work a feeling of age and history, as though it were an artifact of a long ago place and time, or an ancient devotional altar.  "Under Glass" is part of Krause' "Sacred and Mundane" series.

Krause is a painter, collage artist and printmaker who incorporates digital mixed media into her art.  She is deeply inspired by history, nature, travel, and innovative art making processes.  Her work is exhibited regularly in galleries and museums, and is featured in numerous current periodicals and books.  Krause is Professor Emeritus at Massachusetts College of Art where she founded the Computer Arts Center and is a member of Digital Atelier (registered trademark), an artists collaborative.  She is a frequent speaker at conferences and symposia and is a consultant for manufacturers and distributors of products which may be used by fine artists.

Krause' work has been exhibited across the United States and abroad, including at Art Complex Museum (Duxbury, MA); Jaffe Center for Book Arts (Boca Raton, FL); Landing Gallery (Rockland, ME); Danforth Museum of Art (Framingham, MA); Judi Rotenberg Gallery (Boston, MA); The New England School of Photography (Boston, MA); and 571 Projects (New York, NY).  She has completed numerous public art projects and her work has been acquired by many museums including The Museum of Fine Art Boston, The Smithsonian Museum of American Art, and The deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum.
