571 Projects is delighted to announce that exhibiting artist Jimmie James will give an Artist Talk, followed by a musical performance of original songs featuring Jimmie James & guitarist Jackson FitzGerald. A reception will follow.
Jimmie James is a visual artist and singer/songwriter based in Brooklyn. As an artist, Jimmie James' works offer both catharsis and celebration. An artistic shaman, James taps into a kind of universal consciousness, drawing on his decades of experience, to create canvasses that insist on our participation as viewers. A confrontation of the angular and the abstract with the organic and rawly human is at the heart of Jimmie James' paintings. Spontaneous line drawing elements lie next to deliberately executed areas of paint. A poet, painter, actor and singer/songwriter, James has long been a fixture of New York City's art, theater and music scene, showing at a number of galleries. He has performed alongside his paintings (curated by 571 Projects) at the now shuttered arts space, Fair Folks & a Goat in New York, and has collaborated with many musicians along the way. His original paintings have been featured on record covers with Verve Music Group.
Jackson FitzGerald is a Brooklyn-based guitarist and producer working at the intersection of performance and record-making. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he has toured, performed, and recorded internationally with artists including Natalie Merchant, Molly Lewis, Luke Bergman, Alexa Barchini, and Bobby Hawk. After two and a half years touring with Natalie Merchant, FitzGerald has more recently focused on studio work, founding his Red Hook, Brooklyn studio, Beaver Darn. There he produces and records music for film and commercial projects, as well as a wide range of independent artists including Molly Lewis, Luke Bergman, Breastfist, Little Arcs, and Moon Mullins. His 2023 solo release, Jolly Ball, was entirely self-recorded and produced, reflecting his distinctive approach to sound — balancing intimate, organic performances with carefully constructed sonic detail. FitzGerald continues to produce across genres while maintaining an active career as a guitarist.
